This will be short, as I’m still without access to the larger online world, but there are gems to share. Aching thumbs be damned.
First, it is perhaps the most beautiful day of the year here so far. I’m hoping that those of you who are close by can celebrate spring in whatever way suits you. Cleaning up the hydrangea flower bed, licking salt from a margarita on the waterfront, driving with the windows down and a most embarrassing tune on CD. This is weather that reminds us we’re alive, not just surviving. I hope you’re able to stop all mind machinery long enough to enjoy it. Even in traffic.
Second, a friend has done the unthinkable, signing on for a real-life romantic comedy role of dramatic proportions, by marching right up to a faraway crush with a note of interest. That’s right. An old fashioned inked note, right there on paper, one that balanced desired outcomes with a hint of flirtation. And? It worked. It worked to a degree I can’t capture in this wee post, a connection made involving phone conversations until dawn and the anticipation not even of tomorrow, but the next hour. Completely unexpected and even more beautiful because it was so. This friend is over the moon.
Cheers to this beautiful life and having the balls to take it on.

Spring! Yay! Watched out my back yard to where the neighbor’s 11 year old daughter had the time of her life swinging on the rope swing, yelling and laughing her head off! I wanted her to Own that moment; as we all do of Innocent Happiness & Wyld Abondon!
I should have done the Responsible thing, played the nasty old “Get off my Lawn, Kid!” but my heart isn’t in it at all. Youth is a precious time for each of us, all too short & many times frittered away & wasted.
I hope she keeps this Day Close, remembers how she felt, the Joy of being ALIVE!
Meanwhile, I sort through stuff I’m either Giving Away or going to list on EBay, taking another Tylonol for my Right knee, which, after a lifetime of lifting and carrying people is Stiff & Sore and Remembering a Day a lot like this when I was her age; with both Fondness & Sadness, ’cause Life is like That too.
I love balls. Especially if they involve taking things on…best to your friend and her glory!! =-)
Yep, the weather is glorious here as well. Pretty much eating it up like a fat kid with a fist full of cake.
Oh the weather is not gorgeous here but that’s okay. It will be soon enough.
And as for your friend? I miss crushes which sounds odd coming from someone who is “single”. Way to go! :)
It is Spring. We had eleven inches of rain in March, 80mph winds are expected tonight and I’m sure my tulips will not survive. But then that will give me a reason to get out into my garden.
Good luck to your friend, it’s nice to see a simple thing be so positive.
so happy for your friend.. ya just never know.
and i love how you said to shut off the “mind machinery” Amen sistah’ – and much harder than it seems, but i’m gonna try. just called in sick to work – this beautiful day that God hath made awaits me…..
I agree, this weather is too nice to waste inside. I think today I’ll try to get out of the office and take a walk down to the Tidal Basin. It’s only a few blocks from my office and I hardly ever go there. I feel bad, people plan their family vacations to DC just to see the Cherry Blossoms and I am to busy to get out of my cube on the nicest day of the year.
That is so adorable about your friend. :)
It just snowed here so we’re definitely not headed toward spring just yet.
Hope to get more details on your friend’s adventure in your beautiful prose.
Nice! I could feel the rush of adrenalin just by reading about it!
I love this post. I love everything about this.
