Unwired

For all intents and purposes, I’m without cable or Internets this week. A wiring snafu has left me without access to my beloved DVR, and as a result, I’m sans Modern Family, and my beloved Cold Case Files from 2007, and Caprica, which I’ve only recently discovered and watch with one hand at the ready to cover my eyes (it’s the robot, you see. The kind of machine that rips its own arm off during a board meeting while people simply gawk and seem to worry little about the safety of their own limbs and testicles. That kind of thing). I’m going through very little withdrawal, surprisingly, and have done more spring cleaning than ever due to the silence. I’ve also stocked the cabinets with an array of movies to keep me entertained. Thus far I’ve watched Seabiscuit and In Bruges, not to mention The Hurt Locker, which was completely unexpected and mostly brilliant. 500 Days of Summer is on deck. I’m trying to pretend it isn’t going to be another twentysomething hipster flick. That and Inglorious Basterds, which I’m trying to pretend doesn’t feature Brad Pitt. More soon – tales of a winery visit and baby chicks warming my hands and travel plans sketched out in great detail – when posts don’t rely on the resilience of my thumbs.

What did you think of “In Bruges”? I thought it was great, but I’m biased. Colin Farrell could just stand there for two hours and I’d love it.

Be careful with those thumbs. I developed very painful clicky Blackberry thumbitis over time and it was ugly. Apparently we are not supposed to use our thumbs in such a fashion for prolonged periods of time. However, you might be able to yarn it into a nice fat l’il workers’ comp issue if you tried hard enough.

Oh yes, please weigh in on In Bruges. Oh, Colin Farrel. He’s gorgeous anytime, but I think I like his rare comedic turns (a la his guest star in Scrubs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd9A0HenYcs&feature=related) better than his moody dark dramatic fare.

My DVR crashed and I lost the last few episodes of Sons of Anarchy and 24. I feel your pain. And check out Black Dynamite. It’s the worst movie you’ll ever see – it’s hilarious!

I really enjoyed 500 Days of Summer. Inglorious Basterds was a fantastic movie. I’d like to watch it again, actually.

the upside is that once you’re back online, you’ll have a new Modern Family waiting for you.

Have you seen Precious? Really good.

Wow, you and Holly are both having interwebs/cable issues. What’s going on back there? :)

Oh mi gosh you crack me up. You make me realize I appreciate that I’m not usually connected to a tv schedule. But God take my internet away and I’d be lost.

I’ve noticed that when I watch Caprica, I’m never quite relaxed. Also, I’m never sure if I enjoy it or not but I keep watching. It must be the robot.

I watched Easy Virtue this weekend. I can’t remember how I heard about it but it was available on Netflix to watch instantly. I was surprised that I liked it. (Colin Firth, anyone?) (He’s the awesome)

I weeped on the inside for you and your lack of DVR. Sadness.

See, and here I was going to say that sometimes, being unplugged has it’s advantages…

    I’m feeling for you.

P.S. I got The Hurt Locker from Netflix because I’ve heard so many great things about it. I tried to like it, I really did… I just couldn’t make myself sit all the way through it. Maybe it was the mood I was in?
