Vet visit 4,071 was this morning. The update: Bug does not have liver or kidney failure or a thyroid condition! This is incredibly good news, because the thought of my cat being radioactive as a result of his treatment is less than appealing. He does, however, have a urinary tract infection, which immediately prompted me to lecture him on the hazards of premarital sex. He also has an elevated glucose level, which the fine vet translated as either a result of diabetes or stress. You know, the kind you feel when you’re pretty sure someone is going to take your temperature via your rectum with a refrigerated tool that makes itself welcome for at least a minute or two. Or the kind that comes when you overhear your mother talking to the vet tech, the latter of whom asks, “Are you bringing him in to be neutered?” Because they can do that more than once? That kind of stress.
So now we wait two days for more results. If it is diabetes–yet another of those words, like Caribbean and homage, that have completely changed in pronunciation over the last 10 years–we’ll have to see if he’ll be a kid helped by diet change or insulin. I think we all know which one I’m pulling for. If it isn’t diabeet-us, it’s likely a behavioral problem, which I will cure with lots of love and special treats and forced viewings of the movie Sybil. Just as I do all relationship issues.
Bug and I thank you for your support.

Poor Bug. I hope he’ll be okay (after that lecture you have planned, he might be short an ear or two).
Here’s to hoping the diet change will work. I’m glad Bug doesn’t have any liver/kidney/thyroid issues. Hang in there!
Ooooh…fingers, toes, eyes, and legs crossed for your kitty’s health. Keep me posted!
I blame the dirty toilet seats for the infection. But hopefully the dirty sugar bowl didn’t contribute to Wilford Brimley Syndrome.
If you’d move out of that gingerbread house, the diabeetus wouldn’t be as much of an issue. I know, I know, the gumdrop cobblestones and toffee window panes attract all the little Hansel + Gretels, but there are other methods, mama!!
i hope he’s fine and all it means is some more pampering for him!
Thank you sweet people; if the wee one needs insulin, anyone close enough to give shots? I do windows. And make a mean Hot Pocket.
I’m still rooting for a magic wand cure.
Oh my God, I’m sorry to hear about Bug’s medical woes, but I could not help laughing nearly all the way through that post, as I still am. I think I might need a forced viewing of Sybil too. Pat-pats on the head to Bug!
Sweet little Bug will be OK. He’s got a great mom.
I just lost my cat last week to a long battle with kidney issues. I’m never going to have a pet cat again. My next pet is going to be a monkey because they have opposable thumbs and maybe I can train one to do light housework for me. How sweet would that be?
Seriously, I hope Bug is OK.
Aw, DV, I’m so sorry. So so sorry. I can help you look for a good monkey. Or if that doesn’t work, one of my exes, although I can’t promise opposable thumbs. HIYO!
Please tell me they don’t make cat-sized insulin pumps? Because if they do, I know you’ll go into debt buying one.
Glad to hear that fur ball is hanging in there!
It’s there free doing free gosts after moon rise Rome fist!
