Status quo

Travel is on hold for the minute, and I’m glad for that. I fancy myself the kind of woman who loves to jump from place to place, but truth be told, sometimes just sitting on my couch with the cats and some Cabernet suits me just fine. Because I didn’t expect to be here, but instead in Texas or Colorado or Minnesota, I have no plans. There’s nowhere I have to be. There are no plans to break because work runs late, no anger to feel when the suburban mice refuse to take Metro to the baseball game. In the silence, there isn’t much to write right now. I have no escapades to share, no dates to dish on, no softball team to rein in. I’m catching up on laundry and on sitting in the silence. I’m enjoying the steam of a DC summer with my air conditioning running much too high and the sweet striped animal faces that missed me during last week’s travel. Come Sunday, I’ll invite the tightly-pulled, cool sheets of another state’s hotel, the heels I’ll wear no matter the outing, and the excitement of searching out solo a dinner and a glass or two of red. But for now, it’s nice to be in the familiar.

Well, enjoy the trip. Collect many off-beat, hilarious stories. Share them! (Eh, the printable parts, of course.)

I travelled 3-5 days every week for about five years, and I am glad to say I have been in an airplane exactly twice in two years. I think staying home is just great.

I think a lot of people fancy themselves the type who “love travel.” It’s an exotic lifestyle to be one of those jet-setters. The reality of travel, though, is rarely as romantic as all that.

    I like home.

P.S. What is this air conditioning of which you speak?

You make me want to stay home. I like that in a woman.

Your cats called. They’re kinda sick of you hanging around all the time.

Unless you’re going to give them more bacon. Then they’re cool with you hanging around.

This is a miracle. I wish it would happen to me. Be stingy with your time and enjoy it.

    “…sitting in the silence”

Do you know the power of this?

    Enjoy your day. : )

The realization that not every void needs to be filled, not all silence needs sound is a lovely moment. Enjoy all of it.

I’ve been so surprised at how happy I’ve been to be home after California. I mean, really…I so love to be on the move. But being still is good. Going to New Orleans for a photojournalism conference next weekend and the only reason I’m excited is because of how much I love photography.

Let me know if you get bored. Is Tallula worth the cab ride? ;)
